COMMON QUERIES
ClariVein is a minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins that combines mechanical and chemical techniques to seal diseased veins. This catheter-based procedure uses a rotating wire to gently disrupt the vein lining while simultaneously injecting a sclerosant solution, which helps close the vein permanently. Over time, the body naturally absorbs the closed vein, and blood is rerouted to healthier veins, improving circulation and reducing symptoms.
Unlike treatments that use heat, ClariVein does not rely on thermal energy to seal veins. This makes it particularly suitable for treating veins located near sensitive structures like nerves, reducing the risk of heat-related complications.
Clarivein is primarily used to treat any condition with underlying venous reflux, such as varicose veins or chronic venous insufficiency (CVI).
You may be a good candidate if you experience symptoms like:
✔ Leg pain, aching, or heaviness
✔ Swelling or discomfort after standing for long periods
✔ Visible varicose veins
✔ Skin changes or venous ulcers
Prior to any treatment, a vascular specialist will first assess your condition to determine if Clarivein is a suitable treatment option.
Step 1: Guided Insertion
A small incision is made (generally around the ankle), and a thin catheter is carefully inserted into the affected vein with the aid of ultrasound imaging to ensure precise placement.
Step 2: Mechanical Disruption
Once in position, the catheter is activated. A rotating wire at the catheter tip agitates the vein lining, preparing it for treatment by making it more receptive to the next step.
Step 3: Chemical Closure
A sclerosing solution is delivered through the catheter, causing the vein walls to collapse and seal shut.
Step 4: Natural Absorption
Over the next few months, the body naturally absorbs the closed vein, while blood is rerouted to healthier veins, improving circulation.
Step 5: No Need for Tumescent Anaesthesia
Since ClariVein does not use heat, there’s no need for tumescent anaesthesia, meaning:
✔ Fewer needle sticks
✔ Less discomfort from fluid infiltration into the leg
The procedure itself generally takes between 30 and 60 minutes, and additional treatments (such as removing bulging varicose veins or treating spider veins) can sometimes be performed during the same session It is typically performed on an outpatient basis, meaning most patients can go home the same day and return to normal activities quickly.
ClariVein is generally well tolerated. Unlike heat-based treatments (such as laser or radiofrequency ablation), it does not require multiple local anesthesia injections, making it a more comfortable option. Some patients may feel a mild vibrating sensation during the procedure.
✔ Walk immediately: Light walking is encouraged right after the procedure to promote circulation and healing.
✔ Compression stockings: Recommended for 1-2 weeks to aid healing.
✔ Back to routine: Most patients return to work and normal activities within 24 hours.
✔ Avoid strenuous exercise: Activities like heavy lifting or intense workouts should be avoided for about a week.
ClariVein offers a quick recovery with minimal downtime, making it a convenient option for varicose vein treatment.
ClariVein is safe and effective. However, just like any medical procedure, there is a small potential for risks. These include:
